Orissa tennis player makes dignified exit

Orissa youth Chinmaya Pradhan’s campaign in the AITA Men’s Ranking Tennis Tournament ended today when he went down fighting in the doubles semifinals at Patna. Chinmaya and partner Devpriya Jaiswal (Bihar) were beaten 6-4, 6-3 by former National champion Sourav Panja and his West Bengal partner Manoj Sewa. However, Chinmaya admitted that the tournament, his second in men’s circuit, had immensely boosted his confidence. ‘‘My performance here has convinced me that I can compete well against leading names in the circuit. I need more experience to convert defeats into victories,’’ an elated Chinmaya said. A product of Bhubaneswar-based Gurukul Tennis Academy, Chinmaya left Patna to participate in another AITA men’s ranking tournament at Chandigarh tomorrow.
